CONCEALED CARRY TRAINING COURSE OFFERED AT NOSC

From: Joel Chaney

Once again we are offering the required training course for those who want to apply for an Ohio Concealed Handgun License (CHL *). The class will be conducted at the North Olmsted Sportsmen’s Club clubhouse/range at 5743 Bradley Rd., North Olmsted. It consists of 14 hours of instruction, starting on Tuesday, 9/21/10 at 6:00 p.m. for 4 hours. The second session (4 hours) will be Thursday, 9/23/10, at 6:00 p.m. for 4 hours. The third session will be on Saturday 9/25/10, at 8:30 AM - 3 PM.

We feel we have developed the best CHL curriculum around. It is based on the NRA Basic Pistol program and Ohio law. It also includes the NRA Personal Protection Outside the Home text, abundant related materials, and plenty of range time. It is NOT intended to teach you how to shoot, although instruction will be given to those needing it. The emphasis is on safety, situational awareness and response, equipment options and selection, and the legal aspects of having and using an Ohio CHL permit. You will be required to pass not only a written test on the safety course and Ohio law material, but also demonstrate gun safety and gun handling proficiency.

The CHL program run on a break-even basis, so any funds remaining after meeting expenses goes to the club. Prices:

  • NOSC members $ 80
  • NRA members $ 90 (who are not NOSC members)
  • All others $ 100.
  • Ask about the spouse discount.

All class materials are provided – all you need to do is bring a pencil or pen. For the range sessions, the student must supply eye and hearing protection.

You will need your firearm for all three classes with ammunition. Please ask if your are unsure on the proper method of transporting a firearm to the range.

Class size is restricted to a maximum of 15, so it is important to respond to this notice ASAP.

To reserve your spot, contact Joel Chaney at nosc_ccw@weaponology.org or by calling 216.258.1380. To enroll in the class, please fill out an application (available online at the club website or at the clubhouse). Return application and deposit of $50 payable to Joel Chaney. (Arrangements will be made when contacting Joel.) Also, be sure to read the regulations.

Plan on being there early on 5/18, around 5:30, so we can process everyone and not lose valuable time. Be punctual and plan on staying for the full session each time. You must do the full 14 hours of class or you will not receive your certificate - no exceptions. If you are unable to attend each session in full, special arrangements can be made.

Technically, Ohio issues a Concealed Handgun License, not a concealed weapons permit or license.
